At Climate Investments, we invest in solutions that can demonstrate a substantive reduction in methane or carbon dioxide emissions. We work closely with our investee companies to help them achieve wider adoption and scale for successful commercialisation.

Job Function

To lead across the origination, execution and management of transactions, following investments throughout their life cycle. Investment opportunities should demonstrate a substantive reduction in carbon emissions as well as an appropriate risk-return profile. Responsibility for hands-on portfolio and asset management through to exit. Working to help build investee companies on their paths to wider adoption and commercialisation.

Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • To leverage strong network to be a significant contributor to new deal flow
  • To identify suitable investment opportunities that have the potential for significant carbon reduction
  • To provide challenges and constructive feedback on deal flow/investment opportunities
  • To brief and liaise with the team including core functions e.g. Finance and Legal, as required to ensure that potential deals can be converted into investment opportunities
  • To be responsible for the management and oversight on all aspects of a due diligence process and actively work to improve process
  • To lead the deal structuring and negotiation of investment opportunities; bringing in new deal structures appropriate to the transaction
  • To support and ensure good governance and processes for investee companies
  • To proactively lead follow-on investments
  • To work with investees to assist in scaling/growing the business as well as attracting new customers
  • To use core network to make introductions to co-investors/acquirers for benefit of the investee companies
  • To actively work with investee Boards as a Director or Observer
  • To drive successful exits that provide an appropriate return on capital
  • To actively monitor progress on investee companies and advise as needed
  • To lead strategic initiatives and input to broader company initiatives
  • To drive the goals and strategic direction for the team in partnership with the leadership team
  • To proactively work on strategic rationale and prioritised investment areas
  • To be an Ambassador for the company – actively taking on speaking engagements, staying in contact with industry partners
  • To provide strong executive presence and business judgment; using prior experience to bring valuable content to new deals
  • To provide leadership for more junior staff as required 

Main Interfaces

Internal

(Direct and functional reporting relationships; interaction within and between functions).
  • Reports directly to the Communications and Marketing Director
  • Frequent interaction with the CEO of OGCI Climate Investments LLP
  • Interaction with the Leadership Team and all functions across the CI organisation

External

(Liaison requirements with other companies; consultants; agencies; professional associations; peer groups etc).
  • Frequent liaison with external stakeholders including but not limited to: international institutions, media, private companies or innovators, scientists and Financial groups
  • Interaction with representatives from the OGCI Executive Committee and OGCI Member Companies as necessary
  • Liaison with relevant appropriate consultants for the provision of communication and marketing services as required
  • Liaison with representatives from event host organisations

Education and Professional Qualifications Required

• Degree Qualified
• MBA highly desirable

Additional Specialised Knowledge and Skills

• Engineering background is a plus

Experience and Technical Competencies

  • Investment Director and/or Managing Director investment experience in Venture Capital/Private Equity required
  • Experience of holding Board seats within multiple organisations simultaneously
  • A track record in helping to build successful companies/exits
  • Depth of professional experience in closing transactions as lead on deal team
  • Highly developed leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence business strategy, decisions and direction within the organisation
  • Strong performance track record in previous investment roles, ideally with global organisations
  • Previous investment experience in the energy industry
  • Prior supervision and mentoring of team members
  • Strong sense of commerciality, knows what makes commercial sense, and ability to identify key risks

  • Ability to lead and manage teams both directly and functionally to create cohesion and optimal working relations
  • Demonstrates the highest level of motivation and commitment to the achievement of the business goals within the organisation and is a role model for others
  • Flexibility and efficiency to ensure the roles and responsibilities are met in a timely and effective manner
  • Team player; ability to work effectively with a diverse team
  • Ability to judge and maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion on sensitive issues

  • Position is based in the US
  • The role will involve domestic and international travel as required
  • Eligibility to live and work in the US is essential
