Commercialisation Director, CCUS

Job Function

One of CI’s goals is to mitigate anthropogenic carbon dioxide by investing in CCUS technologies and projects that support development of business and participation models, reduce CO2mitigation cost (through scale and/or technology), accelerate key enablers, de-risk barriers, and progress new CCUS technologies to commercial scale. The Commercialisation Director will lead development, approval and execution of the plan to commercialise and deploy carbon capture and utilisation technologies. The individual will be a member of the Commercialisation team and work closely with the Technology, Ventures, CCUS Projects team members as well as member company experts and investee company boards.  

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Business Plan development
  • Stakeholder buy-in and approvals
  • Execution Plan and resulting implementation
  • Communication to all relevant stakeholders
  • Close interaction with relevant portfolio companies to support actively broad deployment and scaled commercialisation of critical CCUS technologies
  • Ensuring the proper management of confidential information and data

Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Development of Business Plan to scale and deploy commercially viable carbon capture and utilisation technologies
  • Identify pilots and projects that can be used to demonstrate technology viability and commercial readiness
  • Build the case and solicit investment approvals from CI and CI Board, as required
  • Work closely with the Ventures, Technology and CCUS teams in order to align actions/investments to get the best outcome for CI and for the investees
  • Develop good relationships with the Member Companies to ensure participation of the Member Companies in the investments, pilots or deployment
  • Communicate with all stakeholders to ensure timely sharing of information and ideas
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration across industries and regions through strategic networking
  • Drive value through the development of models, concept design and evaluation
  • Work across industries, applications, technologies, regions and disciplines to identify key opportunities for commercialisation

Main Interfaces

Internal

(Direct and functional reporting relationships; interaction within and between functions).

  • Reports directly to Technology Principal
  • Works broadly within the overall Technology team to support various Ventures and Project investment activities
  • Active collaboration and interaction across the entire CI organisation and in particular with the Legal, Finance, Environmental, Projects and Marketing functions

External

(Liaison requirements with other companies; consultants; agencies; professional associations; peer groups etc).

  • Portfolio Companies
  • OGCI Member companies and other third party stakeholders such as consultants, service organizations or other entities used to support diligence and deployment processes

Education and Professional Qualifications Required
  • Degree in engineering or science is required
  • Masters or MBA level qualification is desirable

Experience and Technical Competencies:

  • Experience in CCUS
  • Strong technical background
  • Experience in commercialisation, particularly in relation to new technologies Demonstrated experience in scale-up and commercialisation of projects with a broad scope to manufacturing scale. This ideally includes experience in project structuring and financing as well as market development and operational scale-up.  Experience could be with venture start-ups and/or projects
  • Proven track record of bringing complex deals to closure
  • Ability to operate as a key team member and influencer
  • Ideally has experience operating in a variety of different international locations and cultures

Additional Information:

Although the preferred locations have been specified as London or Houston, consideration may be given to high calibre candidates who possess the required competencies and experience in other locations.  In particular, proximity to Investee Companies may be taken into consideration.  Candidates must be eligible to work in the proposed location. The role may require additional hours to be worked in addition to the specified contractual hours, where necessary, to meet business requirements.  Occasional travel locally and internationally will be required.

Unusual Working Conditions:

  • Domestic and International Travel will be required from time to time (approximately 25-35%)
  • Diverse locations of OGCI may require out of hours meetings from time to time

Special Physical Requirements:

Visits to industrial sites requiring appropriate PPE will be required

 

Additional Information

  • Position is based in London or Houston. Eligibility to work in the final location is mandatory
  • The role may require additional hours to be worked above 37.5 hours per week where necessary to meet business requirements with no additional payment for overtime
