Financial Analyst

Job Function

The position will join a small team who are investing in projects and new business models for minimizing the greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint through Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS). The position will work across the origination and execution of transactions, with a focus on financial modelling, due diligence and portfolio management. The position will afford asset management experience and a thorough understanding of the key technologies in CCUS for GHG reduction, with additional exposure to Climate Investment’s broader areas of focus including energy efficiency, methane reduction, and transportation.

Key Responsibility Areas

The role will report to the VP CCUS  and work closely with the CCUS Team. Key tasks include screening investment opportunities, detailed financial modelling and return analysis, and supporting market analysis, risk assessments, and competitive landscape overviews as part of due diligence. The role will also encompass ongoing reporting of investments as well as the analysis of investment exits. Furthermore, the individual may play a role in Climate Investment’s Investment Days and other “road show” events to help promote dealflow and to work with potential partners/co-investors.

Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Participate in and contribute to all analytical aspects of the investment process, with responsibilities for both developing internal financial models and evaluating financial models created by others, and generating investment outcome scenarios
  • Perform sector and thematic research and analysis to help increase the amount of quality dealflow 
  • Assist with deal execution and transaction management
  • Support preparation of materials for the Investment Committee and other internal meetings
  • Work across various business & support teams to drive quality investment decisions
  • Keep up-to-date on portfolio performance and address any specific requests for action or approval
  • Liaise with ventures team and finance with regards to reporting of portfolio and year-end valuations

Main Interfaces

Internal

(Direct and functional reporting relationships; interaction within and between functions).

  • Reports directly to Technology Principal
  • Works broadly within the overall Technology team to support various Ventures and Project investment activities
  • Active collaboration and interaction across the entire CI organisation and in particular with the Legal, Finance, Environmental, Projects and Marketing functions

External

(Liaison requirements with other companies; consultants; agencies; professional associations; peer groups etc).

  • OGCI Member companies and other third party stakeholders such as consultants, service organizations or other entities used to support diligence and deployment processes

Education and Professional Qualifications Required
  • Financial experience in energy or related fields which can include but is not limited to private equity, investment banking, corporate finance or management consulting
  • MBA, CFA and/or Engineering background is a plus

  • Excellent organization skills, including prioritizing, forward planning and administration
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to produce sophisticated financial models, interpret financial statements and generate risk-adjusted returns
  • Strong communication skills and ability to produce concise, accurate & compelling investment analysis
  • High commercial awareness and drive for decision quality e.g. appropriate framing, use of reliable information, practical, trade-off analysis
  • Expertise creating and presenting analyses; relevant experience with Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, and Word
  • Self motivated individual willing to go beyond immediate responsibilities
  • Highly adaptable with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with ambiguity and changing priorities
  • Excellent teamworking and networking skills; clear communicator
  • Ability to work with a diverse team
  • Ability to judge and maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion on sensitive issues

Working Conditions

Unusual Working Conditions:

  • Domestic and International Travel will be required from time to time (approximately 20-25%).
  • Diverse locations of OGCI may require out of hours meetings from time to time.

Special Physical Requirements:

Visits to industrial sites requiring appropriate PPE will be required
